Ive been a stones fan for 20 years. At home there was always rock music loudly playing. The regulars were BEATLES, STONES, KINKS, ANIMALS, TRAFFIC, J. TULL, CREAM, WHO, ZEPPELIN. I was not into anybody in particular until one day when I was 13, me dad brought home the LOVE YOU LIVE Lp n the cover pictures blew my mind. I looked for "satisfaction" n was dissapointed but found something more interesting than anything Id heard, seen or lived before; on the forth side there was something unbelievable, a song called SYMPATHY FOR you know....n ever since…
From 15 to 20 I collected everything of them, kept all the articles n pictures of the paper, I confess now going to the public libraries n stealing n ripping off all the Stones photos and info, bought all the CD s, read n bought all the books about them n when I was 19 got that tattoo that later I didnt particulary enjoy, like or care anymore until now that I decided to use Facebook for Rolling Stones affairs, so I thought: I might as well take my shirt off n show it to the World. I knew all the lyrics by heart specially from the Brian Jones era, could name all their records chronologically with their songs, pictures on my notebooks, posters on the walls; It was really easy for family and friends to buy me a christmas or birthday present….n etc etc you know what I mean.
From 20 to 30 when I was studyng n doing some travelling I bought many bootlegs n for the first time saw them live with the Voodo Lounge Tour (first time in Mexico, poor we) though a little before that I took a plane to San Antonio Texas to see them. Went to 4 out 5 concerts they did. Went to the 2 concerts with Bridges, they didnt come with Licks –n went to the only concert they did in Mexico city with a Bigger Bang.
Nowadays I dont really talk about them anymore or listen to them everyday, well sometimes, (I know all their songs by heart and can play them in my head or sing them or whistle them) but not 8 hours a day like I used to, or tell people that I love Them or anything, or collect their stuff, I would just pick the paper with them on, read it n leave it or the tv…I dont treasure their CDs anymore since everything is now on the web except of course for my booklegs. For the very first time I didnt buy “Shine a Light” n instead I downloaded (Im a bit angry for what they did with “Rocks off” on the Licks live cd!!!).
With all these I have, I have a project to air a radio show of the Stones in my hometown, there are several for the Beatles n none for the Stones.
Im glad n gratefull to know the Stones n their music n their story, it is really part of mine n now Im pleased to meet you all fans of the Stones. God bless you n god bless ths Stones. The greatest band in the World! 4 me.
